The Mountain Club of Uganda

Developing adventures in Uganda
Hi MCU members!
Unfortunately, amid the Covid 19 Pandemic, MCU has suspended its climbing, hiking, and kayaking activities until further notice. But fear not! We are pivoting to more virtual activities, so you can stay safe and sound at home without missing out on all the MCU fun. If you have an idea for a virtual activity, let us know!
Cheers,
Flo

HIGHLIGHTS

Luwazi Climbing Trips
In February we made it out to Nsiita to get some climbing and camping in. Luckily the rain held off for both trips, and we had nearly 30 people join in the climbing fun. Camping at Luwazi was complete with a goat roast, great views, and even better conversation. Join us for the next trip. We’re hoping to get out there again soon!
Virtual Movie Screenings
Break out the popcorn and download Zoom! We thought we’d try out a virtual movie night by hosting a screening of Free Solo via Zoom to help us get inspired for our next adventure. We hope to hold more screenings like this one in the future. If you have a suggestion for the next virtual movie night, let us know by getting in touch with Kristian Cejka.
Bukasa Wall Updates
Development of the new Bukasa Wall is just about ready to wrap up. A huge thanks to Zach and all the MCU members who volunteered their time to clean and bolt. The wall will officially open the health situation improves. MCU is planning to hold Bukasa Wall events on Tuesdays and Sundays. The new wall will have several bolted routes including some that are 30 meters high!
Bouldering Wall Updates
Caffe Roma has granted MCU space to create a bouldering wall. MCU has planned for a 56 square meter structure with three sides and a cieling dedicated to bouldering space. Construction is already underway! Once travel restrictions are lifted, MCU will ask for your help to bring back climbing holds, used or new, so we can create more problems!
30 Day Fitness Challenge
Looking for something to do to keep yourself fit during the lockdown? MCU’s 30 day fitness challenge is just wrapping up. If you missed the day-by-day on WhatsApp, you can still start on the challenge. MCU has created an online archive of the daily challenges on its website here.
