DESCRIPTION:We are now REALLY ready to host the launch party for climbing the Quarry in Muyenga 🙂  \nThe Mountain Club Of Uganda has spent many hours cleaning the rock and setting up climbing routes for all members to enjoy 🙂\nAll the routes have been set up for top-rope climbing\, and routes are of various levels of difficulty\, to cater for all levels of ability. \nNon-MCU members and children are more than welcome to join the Quarry launch event. \nThere will be the opportunity to climb at the launch event\, whether you are an experienced climber or have never climbed before. We’ll have special climbing games for the kids or still behaving like one. There’ll also be a competition to name the routes.\nWear comfortable/sports clothes for the climbing and if you have bring a cycling or kayaking helmet in case any pebbles or small rocks come down the wall. \nIf climbing is not your thing\, there’ll be plenty of other outdoor games from Viking Chess\, Slackline to Badminton to keep you occupied. Feel free to bring your own lane games along. \nWe’ll also be providing a paid BBQ and a cash bar for when you need to refuel. If you have bring a picnic rug. \nWe’ll be heading over to Cafe Roma once it gets dark\, so come and join us for a few drinks there. \nDisclaimer: If it rains\, bad luck and we’ll have to cancel the event again. Climbing is an outdoor sport and is not safe on wet and slippy rock.

SUMMARY:Mt. Kenya Batian Climb
DESCRIPTION:For all you serious climbers: Mount Batian is Kenya’s highest peak\, at 5200m! To summit this beast\, you have to master roughly 20 pitches from 4800-5200m.  You will need to have a lot of experience in multi-pitch climbing and prepare well for cold weather and altitude complications.  The climbs are generally low grades\, but logistics and altitude make it very challenging.  The costs are relatively low at 380 USD for park entry and climbing permit.  Food\, transport\, lodging and gear on your own/shared cost. Luwazi offers a good selection of top rope and lead climbing routes for climbers of different skills and experience levels. One hour drive East of Kampala. See Google maps:\nLUWAZI LOCATION\nReturn\nDepending on your driver. \nFood and drinks\nRemember to bring a lunch for Saturday and at least 5 litres of water. \nCosts\nTo cover unforeseen trip expenses the club charges a participation fee. \nParticipation fee: 10\,000 UGX \nMembership: 50\,000UGX per annum\n(You must be a MCU member to participate to this trip) \nRentals\nYou can rent climbing equipment through the club at the site.
