DESCRIPTION:The Historical walk is back! \n\nLegend has it that Kampala\, like Rome\, is a city built on seven hills. The city derives its name Kampala for the Luganda work “Kasozi ka Mpala” which means a Hill of many Impala. The Kampala of today comprises 21 hills\, but a walk through the 7 original hills will give you the opportunity to explore the genesis of the present day city.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThe walk will be led by Deo Lubega\, Patron of the Mountain Club and prodigious story teller. The 7 hills are: Nsambya\, Kibuli\, Nakasero\, Old Kampala\, Namirembe\, Lubaga\, Lubiri. The route weaves between the hills along paths and feeder roads and takes approximately 5-6 hours to walk.\n\n\n\nThe start and finish point will be the Moonland Gardens on Nsambya-Gaba Road (a safe place to park with a small charge). DESCRIPTION:We hold outdoor climbing at 4:00-7:00pm at the MCU Quarry in Muyenga. \n\n\nAt the quarry you will find a range of routes from beginner to more advanced. If you do not own climbing equipment (ropes\, harness\, belay device\, helmet) the Club provides equipment that you can rent for 5\,000UGX. Please bring sports clothes\, water\, and some collateral for rental equipment. \nClimbers usually go for some food and beers at Cafe Roma after climbing. \nThe cost is free for members. Memberships cost 50\,000UGX for 1 year and 20\,000 for Ugandan students. New members can register at the event. \nDirections: From Tank Hill Road head toward Bukasa Road. Turn left onto Kalungi Road. Take your first right onto Kawagga Close. The quarry is on private property at the end of the road. Parking is available to MCU members

SUMMARY:Muhavura\, Sabinyo and Gahinga Easter Weekend Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Hello Active people!!! It’s time we got a break from the hustle and bustle in Kampala by heading to Kisoro\, in south western Uganda to hike either Mount Muhavura/Sabyinyo or Gahinga -plenty of freedom to choose according to preference and fitness levels. \nMount Muhavura/Muhabura stands at a height of about 4\,127m high. The highest peak of Sabinyo at about 3\,669m and Gahinga around 3\,474m. It’s a one day hike for whichever you choose as your Easter challenge. Muhavura and Sabinyo are steep hikes so it is best to come fully prepared for a bit of a challenge. Sounds like so much fun!!! \nThe plan is to depart from Kampala on Friday the 19th of April. Start the hike early Saturday morning on the 20th of April and return to Kampala on Sunday the 21st of April. This trip is not limited to individuals residing in Kampala\, MCU members residing in other parts of the country are welcome to join as well. \nEmail me (Pascqa Lorna-MCU trip coordinator) on pascqalorna@gmail.com if you are interested in coming along. \nThere is plenty of useful information on the internet about the 3 mountains (Muhavura\, Sabinyo and Gahinga). I strongly advice for all interested to read through so you have a clearer idea of what to expect and how best to prepare for the hike. \nFeel free to forward your questions to me as well\, I will try my best to help as much as possible.

DESCRIPTION:This weekend\, the MCU is headed to Jinja and the White Nile River for discounted group lessons with the stellar team at Kayak The Nile.\n\n\nPaddlers of all levels — especially beginners — are welcome. It’s always a fun weekend out of the big city! For more info\, including MCU discounts\, and anything else you might need to know\, sign up here.\n\n\n\nNon-kayakers are more than welcome to come and enjoy a chilled out weekend with MCU. There are plenty of non-kayaking options like swimming\, stand-up paddle boarding\, and more!\n\n\nBe sure to book accommodation with Nile River Explorers or Nile River Camp directly. Camping is available in addition to dorm rooms and safari tents.\n\nFor transport options\, it is possible to sign up for the NRE Shuttle\, but post to our Facebook page and we’ll hep you find a ride!
