To switch things around\, the MCU is organizing a trip to Insita/Luwazi on January 25-26 for a weekend filled with climbing\, camping by a fire\, a bar-b-que\, a few beers\, and more climbing! \nThe Insita / Luwazi crag is located about an hour east of Kampala and offers a good selection of top rope and lead climbing routes for climbers of different skills and experience levels. \nSee details on The Crag here. \nIt’s a great weekend of climbing\, camping by a fire\, a barbeque\, a few beers\, and more climbing. \nHow to sign up?\nJust enter your details in this Google spreadsheet and I’ll contact you. \nNote that only club members can participate to this trip. There’s a 1-day intro course\nthat you can upgrade to a 3 or 4-day course. SUMMARY:Mount Sabinyo Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Sabinyo is one of the numerous rolling volcanoes that make up the magnificent Virunga mountain ranges that span along the borders of Rwanda\, Uganda\, and DRC. When translated to English\, Sabinyo means “Old Man’s Teeth” and the hike reaches three peaks\, its highest standing at an elevation of 3\,669 m. \nThe plan is to depart from Kampala on Friday the 15th November\, start the hike early Saturday morning on the 16th November and return to Kampala on Sunday the 17th of November. This trip is not limited to individuals residing in Kampala\, MCU members residing in other parts of the country are welcome to join as well. SUMMARY:KBG Weekend in Sipi
DESCRIPTION:The KGB plans a KGB weekend to Sipi in the last weekend of October\, 25\, 26 and 27 October 2019. \nThe idea is to leave Friday afternoon and make our way to Sipi\, on the slopes of Mount Elgon. Sipi is around 270km from Kampala. \nOn Saturday we will do a long bike ride\, around 50km. On Sunday we do a shorter ride of around 30km. Be prepared\, they have some hills around Sipi! \nFor the non-cyclers there is lots to do: including climbing up (or down) to the waterfalls\, community walks and a coffee tour. \nWe plan to stay at the Lacam Lodge\, they offer log cabins and a campsite\, for more info see: http://www.lacamlodge.co.uk \nThere are not cost involved in the trip\, just make your booking by contacting Lacam lodge at charleslacamlodge@gmail.com or call using the contact details on the website. \nAnother accommodation option is Sipi River Lodge : www.sipiriverlodge.com \nFor transport we use our own vehicles. SUMMARY:7 Hills Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Historical walk is back! \n\nLegend has it that Kampala\, like Rome\, is a city built on seven hills. The city derives its name Kampala for the Luganda work “Kasozi ka Mpala” which means a Hill of many Impala. The Kampala of today comprises 21 hills\, but a walk through the 7 original hills will give you the opportunity to explore the genesis of the present day city.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe walk will be led by Deo Lubega\, Patron of the Mountain Club and prodigious story teller. The 7 hills are: Nsambya\, Kibuli\, Nakasero\, Old Kampala\, Namirembe\, Lubaga\, Lubiri. The route weaves between the hills along paths and feeder roads and takes approximately 5-6 hours to walk.\n\n\nThe start and finish point will be the Moonland Gardens on Nsambya-Gaba Road (a safe place to park with a small charge). It’s always a fun weekend out of the big city! For more info\, including MCU discounts\, and anything else you might need to know\, sign up here.\n\n\n\nNon-kayakers are more than welcome to come and enjoy a chilled out weekend with MCU. There are plenty of non-kayaking options like swimming\, stand-up paddle boarding\, and more!\n\n\nBe sure to book accommodation with Nile River Explorers or Nile River Camp directly. DESCRIPTION:We hold indoor climbing on the first Tuesday evening of the month at 7-9pm at the International School of Uganda (ISU) in Lubowa. A range of different routes from beginner to more advanced. If you do not own any climbing equipment the Club has equipment there that you can borrow. Please bring sports clothes and some water. Climbers usually go for some food and beers nearby after climbing. The cost is free for members. Memberships cost 50\,000UGX for 1 year and 20\,000 for Ugandan students.
