SUMMARY:Mountainbike Adventure West Uganda
DESCRIPTION:Organized by: Red Dirt Uganda Mountainbike Centre \nThe trip through West-Uganda will be the most unique and beautiful nature and wildlife mountainbike trip you will ever make. We’ll cycle past breath-taking lakes and through the jungle of one of world’s only habitats of mountain gorilla’s\, followed by a thrilling safari ride on your iron horse through one of Uganda’s national parks to see lions\, buffalo’s\, elephants and much more. Experience local culture by riding through beautiful African villages and meeting its friendly inhabitants\, while slaloming between magical crates lakes with a backdrop of Uganda’s massive mountains: the Rwenzoris. Too much to mention! \nBut be aware\, you’ll have to work for it! We’ll cycle from Fort Portal to Kisoro and will cover around 300km with quite some elevation metres. This is not for the faint-hearted\, but very much do-able if you have a adequate fitness level. \nCheck this link for an impression of our last trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-xwNlbHvUE&feature=youtu.be \nThe trip comes with basic accommodation\, breakfast\, lunch\, supper\, snacks and water during cycling\, transport from/to Kampala and during the trip\, guiding vehicle with mechanic who will clean your bikes daily and a fluent english speaking guide. \nParticipation in this tour is based on open enrollment. Anyone can join. For more information send a PM or call/whatsapp to 0772458796 \nWant to go\, but the date isn’t convenient? We will do the same trip in 2017 on:\nFebruary 26 – March 4th\nApril 24th – April 29th\nOctober 15th – October 21 \nTrip itinerary: \nDay 1: Rwenzori Views\nWe’ll do a slightly easy ride around Fort Portal\, not more than 50km where we will cycle along the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains and have some magnificent views. We will also pass a waterfall and cave before we will end up at Kyaninga Lodge watching the sun go down in one of Uganda’s most untouched crater lakes. \nDay 2: Crater Lakes\nA 60km trip along Uganda’s central location of crater lakes. These magnificent sceneries will steal your heart. During lunch brake you can actualy test out the water yourself. We’ll arrive at the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you can do a boattrip at sundown and see buffaloes\, hippos\, etc. \nDay 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park\nLovely trip straigth through the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see elephants\, buffaloes and lots of gazelle’s\, kobs and bocks. The trip will be relatively long (75km) but very flat. \nDay 4: Climbing to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park\nChallenging route to the border of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Buhoma. Buhoma lies at 1400 metres above sea level. Today will be a preparation for what’s to come on tomorrow. \nDay 5: Along the border of BINP\nToday’s goal is to reach Ruhija. It will be tough since a lot of elevation metres need to covered. We’ll cycle along the border of BINP. There’s a good chance to spot monkeys on the road whicl cruising through the jungle. \nDay 6: From the jungle to Bunyonyi\nMost of today’s ride will be downhill\, but expect an ocassional nasty climb. We’ll penetrate the impenetrable park and hoepfully see some monkeys and if we are really really really lucky we might encounter the mountain Gorilla since we cycling through it’s natural habitat. The trip will end at the most beautiful lake of Uganda: Bunyonyi\, where we can do some ropeswinging and swimming. \nDay 7: Transport back to Kampala

SUMMARY:Halloween camping weekend
DESCRIPTION:An affordable weekend of camping\, options to walk/run through a serene forest combined with some Halloween festivities?…. Sounds fun? Then read on…… \nWe are planning a MCU trip for a night in the beautiful Mabira Forest\, with a fancy dress Halloween BBQ planned under the spooky forest canopy on the Saturday night….. \nThe Mabira Forest is a rainforest area covering about 300 square kilometres (120 sq mi) (30\,000 hectares (74\,000 acres)) in Uganda\, located in Buikwe District\, between Lugazi and Jinja. It has been protected as Mabira Forest Reserve since 1932. There are options to bird watch\, trek to see Mangabey monkeys\, hike (both relaxing and long and adventurous options available) and bike through the forest and nearby sugar cane and tea plantations\, or just simply come to relax with the sounds of the forest… Walking and running trails of various lengths can be enjoyed throughout the forest\, and on the Saturday night\, a fancy dress Halloween BBQ party will be organised in the spooky forest…. (don’t forget your fancy dress costume!) \nThe trip will run from Saturday 28th October to Sunday 29th October\, which gives ample time to explore the tranquil forest and surrounds. \nAccommodation\, Food and costs:\nWe will stay at the basic\, but peaceful\, Griffin Falls camp (also known as Mabira Forest Camp). As part of the MCU\, we have been fortunate to be able to negotiate some great savings off their normal prices and rates\, and we have all been offered a FREE 2-hour forest walk!. Longer hikes are also available (UGX10k per person).\nThere are 3 accommodation packages for the weekend: \n• 4 self-contained twin econests. (UGX120k per person\, based on 2 people sharing);\n• 1 x Quadruple banda (four beds) (UGX100k per person)\, or;\n• Camping (unlimited) (UGX80k per person). \nAll packages include the following:\n• One-night accommodation in accommodation of choice;\n• Park entrance fees;\n• Lunch on either the Saturday or Sunday (a full yummy local buffet);\n• A 2-hour guided forest walk;\n• Breakfast on Sunday morning;\n• Entrance to the Halloween BBQ party (bring your own meat\, but charcoal\, salads\, condiments and bread will be provided). \nCold showers are available\, and there are eco-friendly toilets. And if you ask nicely\, they will heat a bucket of water for you to enjoy a warm shower under the forest canopy. \nBeers and sodas are available for purchase at the camp\, although there are no refrigeration facilities\, so if you are partial to a cold drink\, a cool box/ esky might be a good idea 🙂 \nPoints to Note:\n• If you would like to bike\, the camp does not have bikes for rent\, so please bring your own.\n• Don’t forget your fancy dress costume for the Halloween BBQ Party!!!\n• And please also remember bug spray/ insect repellent and a torch! \nDirections: The camp can be found on Google maps- however\, we recommend do not take the “recommended route”\, which basically takes you almost through people’s houses… Instead\, continue past the recommended turn off the road to Jinja\, and in Lugazi\, turn left just before the Minnah/ Minah restaurant on a corner on the left in the town. This road is MUCH better than the other one\, especially if it has been raining\, and there are various signs to the camp along the way to assist- but do keep a watch on google maps\, as not every turn is signposted. \nPlease note: there are options for zip lining in the forest for USD$50 a person. Should you wish to do this\, please note that this activity is not supported by the MCU\, as we are not able to guarantee the safety of the activity. \nContact: Any questions\, please contact Sally Holbrook at madsally@hotmail.com or on 0752 184057. \nPlease follow the link to book (please only complete if you are 100% sure you will be attending): \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxrv3KOOWu6dR8AreMkLALBmGcYjXXbguUBWfrS4mLntEKdQ/viewform
