DESCRIPTION:The long awaited Hairy Lemon weekend is back. So get ready for the social highlight in MCU’s calendar with a Lemon Sports Pentathlon organised for Sunday.  \nFor the kayakers the Hairy Lemon weekend offers the great opportunity to explore a different part of the river and run some new rapids. Kayak the Nile will be offering discounted kayaking lessons for beginners to advanced kayakers. For more details and sign-up click here to sign-up. \nNon-kayakers are more than welcome to join – judging from last time there were definitely more people just enjoying a chilled out weekend than kayaking.\nAs the Hairy Lemon is an island\, it is vital that you book accommodation and please note that the usual shuttle service is not available for Hairy Lemon weekends. \nFor the Lemon Pentathlon\, we’ll get as many people as possible together\, divide them into random teams (great chance to make some new friends)\, and have them compete in the classic Lemon games like volleyball\, lemon twister\, frisbee golf\, viking chess\, etc. Teams will rotate and compete against one another for the highest score. There’ll be a big scoreboard\, points for the best dressed team\, a potential showdown between the runner-ups\, anything we can think of really. DESCRIPTION:We hold outdoor climbing every third Tuesday of the month at the Quarry in Muyenga. A range of different routes from beginner to more advanced. If you do not own any climbing equipment the Club has equipment there that you can rent for 5\,000 UGX. Please bring sports clothes and some water. Climbers usually go for some food and beers nearby at Caffe Roma\, where members get a 15% discount. \nIf you’re not a member\, you can sign up during the event. Memberships cost 50\,000 UGX for 1 year and 20\,000 UGX for Ugandan students. \nDirections \nDrive down tank hill road\, past Caffe Roma. DESCRIPTION:We are now REALLY ready to host the launch party for climbing the Quarry in Muyenga 🙂  \nThe Mountain Club Of Uganda has spent many hours cleaning the rock and setting up climbing routes for all members to enjoy 🙂\nAll the routes have been set up for top-rope climbing\, and routes are of various levels of difficulty\, to cater for all levels of ability. \nNon-MCU members and children are more than welcome to join the Quarry launch event. \nThere will be the opportunity to climb at the launch event\, whether you are an experienced climber or have never climbed before. We’ll have special climbing games for the kids or still behaving like one. There’ll also be a competition to name the routes.\nWear comfortable/sports clothes for the climbing and if you have bring a cycling or kayaking helmet in case any pebbles or small rocks come down the wall. \nIf climbing is not your thing\, there’ll be plenty of other outdoor games from Viking Chess\, Slackline to Badminton to keep you occupied. Feel free to bring your own lane games along. \nWe’ll also be providing a paid BBQ and a cash bar for when you need to refuel. If you have bring a picnic rug. \nWe’ll be heading over to Cafe Roma once it gets dark\, so come and join us for a few drinks there. \nDisclaimer: If it rains\, bad luck and we’ll have to cancel the event again. Climbing is an outdoor sport and is not safe on wet and slippy rock.

DESCRIPTION:Friday 9th June is a public holiday\, why not plan an exciting long weekend in the bush? Mihingo Lodge is hosting their annual Marathon in the beautiful Lake Mburo national park.  \nRun wild with zebras\, warthogs\, eland and impala in support of the Mihingo Conservation Foundation\, supporting a local school with 180 children and compensating farmers for livestock killed by leopard and hyena to stop them from being poisoned. There is more info on this on the MCF Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/Mihingo-Conservation-Foundation-978654725493379/?fref=ts \nThe Charity Run and Mountain Bike Race includes the following event; 5 km Fun Run/ Walk $30\, 10 km Run\, Half or Full Marathon and 21 km Mountain Bike Race all $40 under 15’s all events $20. The registration fees include a T-shirt with all profits going to Mihingo Conservation Foundation. The race start will be at 7:00 am on 10th June 2017. \nCamping at Mihingo  \nMihingo Camping grounds are available at the race site near Mihingo Lodge. Camp facilities include cold showers\, long drop toilets\, drinking water\, firewood\, dustbin and washing up points. Mihingo camping fees are $10 US per person per night free for under 3’s. The campsite is open from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th June 2017 only. Please note food will not be available at Mihingo Lodge for campers\, please bring your own or if you would like to join in the camp meals please note it on your registration form. Food will be provided at $8 per dinner (Friday & Saturday)\, $8 per lunch (Saturday only) and $4 for breakfast (Saturday & Sunday). The food will be simple and good\, but nothing fancy\, not like the Mihingo Lodge food. \nTravel to Lake Mburo \nHead out of Kampala along the Masaka/Mbarara road. Approximately an hour after Masaka you will pass through Lyantonde town\, this is the best place to refuel before turning off the main road. \nAccessing Mihingo campsite & Lodge \nThrough the Park:\n15km’s after Lyantonde you will pass a small trading centre Akageti. 500m metres after this is the turning to Lake Mburo National Park. Follow this road to Nshara Gate. From Nshara to Mihingo always take the left turning at each junction. You will then reach Kanyashara gate. From here turn right and continue up the hill if you are staying at the lodge. If you are camping follow the campsite signs from the gate. Park entry fees will apply. Please find them here: http://www.ugandawildlife.org/images/pdfs/Tariffs-2014-2015.pdf \nOutside the Park:\nNo park entry fees need to be paid. Before the turning to Lake Mburo you will pass through Akageti trading centre. Towards the end of this trading centre on the left there is a main murram road. Turn left on to this and follow. After approximately half an hour (15km) you will pass through a small trading centre called Akashenshero. Continue straight along the murram road for another kilometre. There will be a turning to your right with a sign to the camp. Follow these signs for another 2km and you will arrive. You will need to have a 4 x 4 car to access this road if it has been raining a lot\, drive time is approximately 40 minutes to the camping grounds from the main road. If you would like a boda to guide you\, it should cost approximately 3\,000 UGX from Akashenshero.

DESCRIPTION:Magic Mountainbiking \nOnly a 30-minute boatride away from busy Kampala lies a rather undiscovered area. A magical location without traffic\, fumes and hustler’s hassle. This area offers some of Uganda’s best mountainbike trails both singletrack and wider dirtroads which will lead you through lovely villages and beautiful nature. At the heart of it lies Weaver’s Nest. A place where you can really relax and enjoy the beauty of Uganda. In the weekend from May 5th to 7th Weaver’s Nest forms the base for the pilot of Red Dirt’s Mountainbike Festival. A festival designed for the bikefreak and his/her family. \nActivities \nWe will have scenic mountainbike rides for kids\, beginners and advanced during the day and an exciting ride at night. You can also join one of our mountainbike skill training or compete on the obstacle course. Besides biking there are plenty of other activities that you or your family can participate in: boatrides\, swimming pool\, cano\, bbq\, adventure park\, etc. Detailed information will follow soon. \nAccommodation \nWeaver’s Nest has two fully furnished houses with a great view available that each offers 10 sleeping places. Showers with hot water\, fully equiped kitchens\, a massive garden directly connected to Lake Victoria\, a campfire location\, a private jetty\, a swimming pool and more are all at your disposal. \nReservation \nAccommodation for the whole weekend (2 nights) is USD60 per person.
