DESCRIPTION:Every week the Kampala Group of Bikers (KGB) will organize a fun ride on Sunday morning. The rides will be at an easy pace\, not too long (25-35km) and most important of all: great fun! The rides start from Kabira Country Club at 9am. You can park your car there for free. Our aim is to be back before noon for a good cup of coffee. Make sure to bring water\, food/snacks\, suncream\, a helmet and your bike and some money for coffee or drinks. If you don’t have a bike you can also hire one from Red Dirt Uganda (comes with a helmet) for 65k\, but let us know before the end of Friday. SUMMARY:Mt. Kenya Batian Climb
DESCRIPTION:For all you serious climbers: Mount Batian is Kenya’s highest peak\, at 5200m! To summit this beast\, you have to master roughly 20 pitches from 4800-5200m.  You will need to have a lot of experience in multi-pitch climbing and prepare well for cold weather and altitude complications.  The climbs are generally low grades\, but logistics and altitude make it very challenging.  The costs are relatively low at 380 USD for park entry and climbing permit.  Food\, transport\, lodging and gear on your own/shared cost. SUMMARY:3 day Wilderness First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:The course will run for 3 full days from Saturday 18th February till Monday 20th February in Jinja. \nThe 3 day course includes Basic CPR and First Aid\, assessment\, trauma and medical emergencies\, Uganda specific emergency transport ideas\, and an overview of African illnesses. \nMCU members who wanted to take one of these courses will become certified through ECSI. This 2 year certification is an internationally recognised qualification. The card is digital which means no waiting on Ugandan post and you have your certification within days. \nIn the US\, first aid courses with CPR cost around $80-$100 per person and Wilderness First Aid courses $200-$300 per person. \nTo make the cost easy we have a standard price of $50/ person\, plus $15 for the online book. \nThe price is payable on the first day of the course. This is based on minimum uptake requirements of $500 (so 10 people). Supposing there are less people attending a course than the minimum\, the price per person adjusts to reach the minimum uptake. For example 5 people wanting to do the 3 day Wilderness first aid would need to pay $100/ person for the course to go ahead. Enrollment beyond the minimum uptake is an additional $50 per person. \nHaley Buffman is an Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI) and American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor. She has held a Wilderness EMT-B certification since 2004. She also has 10 years of guiding experience\, 6 years of teaching experience\, and can tailor the course towards the Ugandan perspective on emergency medical response. DESCRIPTION:For the third time\, ladies in Uganda are taking over the Nile! The weekend will be about female paddlers supporting each other on and off the river and is a good chance for women to learn from one another while enjoying all the Nile has to offer. The event is open to all skill levels. Non-kayaking ladies are welcome to come hang out but if you learned on the Nile you must have done at least 3 lessons with Kayak the Nile to paddle. Note\, this is not an official lesson with professional instructors\, this is more of a casual gathering for women to get together to share and build experience and push each other in a encouraging environment. Fill in the Google Form to sign up! \n \nGirls Gone Nile 2016 from Shannon Orcutt on Vimeo. \nThe only costs involved are if you need to rent kayaking equipment and we’ll split the price of transport. You should bring your own lunch for both days and we will be doing dinner and breakfast potluck style. \nSATURDAY FEBRUARY 11 \nWe will meet at Kayak the Nile in Bujagali at 10AM drive to Jenny and Charlie’s land at Superhole. We’ll do a brief Superhole session then the intermediate/ advanced group paddle down to Nile Special. This is your chance to contribute to the MCU. We have put together a briefing HERE to show you what the roles are and the basic responsibilities. This can vary and people take on different responsibilities based on personal interest. \nA lot has happened this year and the MCU is now legally registered. We will be voting on the proposed changes to the Memorandum and Articles. A lot of time and effort has gone into reviewing the old Constitution. DESCRIPTION:This MCU kayaking weekend will be on January 14-15th in Bujagali!  \n  \nOnce a month MCU heads to Jinja for discounted group lessons with the stellar team at Kayak the Nile. Paddlers of all levels – including beginners – are welcome. It’s always a fun weekend out of the big city! SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Indoor Climbing
DESCRIPTION:We hold indoor climbing every Tuesday evening at 7-9pm at the International School of Uganda (ISU) in Lubowa. A range of different routes from beginner to more advanced. If you do not own any climbing equipment the Club has equipment there that you can borrow. Please bring sports clothes and some water. Climbers usually go for some food and beers nearby after climbing. The cost is free for members. Memberships cost 50\,000UGX for 1 year and 20\,000 for Ugandan students.

SUMMARY:Rwenzori Mountains Trek
DESCRIPTION:Wohoooo! This is the big one! Take on the famous Mountains of the Moon! A bunch of people are planning to take on three possible mountains: Stanley (Margherita Peak)\, Speke\, and Baker.  The trip will costs around 1300 USD\, plus transport and park fees may apply.  MCU member discounts with RTS will apply.  Free park entry for those with a UWA Special Corporate Pass.  Members from our partner club MC South Africa are joining as well\, so this is a great chance to network with some other African climbers.  The highest peak is 5109m.  This is a serious climb including a glacial ascent on Mount Stanley\, so good basic fitness is a must!  Contact matt.battani@gmail.com if you are interested.

DESCRIPTION:Red Dirt Uganda Mountainbike Centre has set a date for their next multiday mountainbike adventure in Uganda. It’s gonna be awesom! \nThe trip through West-Uganda will be the most unique and beautiful nature and wildlife mountainbike trip you will ever make. We’ll cycle past breath-taking lakes and through the jungle of one of world’s only habitats of mountain gorilla’s\, followed by a thrilling safari ride on your iron horse through one of Uganda’s national parks to see lions\, buffalo’s\, elephants and much more. Experience local culture by riding through beautiful African villages and meeting its friendly inhabitants\, while slaloming between magical crates lakes with a backdrop of Uganda’s massive mountains: the Rwenzoris. Too much to mention! \nBut be aware\, you’ll have to work for it! We’ll cycle from Fort Portal to Kisoro and will cover around 300km with quite some elevation metres. SUMMARY:Mt. Elgon Mountain Bike Race
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to prove your skills at the yearly Mount Elgon Mountainbike Race 2016!!! \nMain race is a 33km XC/Enduro style course – it’s a mass start and the first across the finish line wins. From Sipi we climb into Mt. Elgon National Park before descending singletrack through coffee planations and villages. There’s 1000m climbing and 2100m max elevation over two off road loops connected by a little tarmac. Course record 2hr 25min. \nHalf race: The half race misses the first loop up to the National Park and is easier with less climbing and a lower max elevation. Course record 1hr 21min. \nTrained or not… There are a lot of activities for those who don’t want to participate in the race\, such as troutfishing in very lush surroundings\, climbing\, hiking the waterfalls \, coffee trips just to mention some… \nThis year there is an accommodation and food pack for $50 pp. It includes 2 nights camping at Noah’s Ark (across the road from Sipi River Lodge) with 2 breakfasts\, one lunch at Sipi River Lodge and a BBQ on the Saturday night. \nCheck out the Facebook page for more details https://www.facebook.com/mountelgonbikerace/
