SUMMARY:3rd Annual Girls Gone Nile
DESCRIPTION:For the third time\, ladies in Uganda are taking over the Nile! The weekend will be about female paddlers supporting each other on and off the river and is a good chance for women to learn from one another while enjoying all the Nile has to offer. The event is open to all skill levels. Non-kayaking ladies are welcome to come hang out but if you learned on the Nile you must have done at least 3 lessons with Kayak the Nile to paddle. Note\, this is not an official lesson with professional instructors\, this is more of a casual gathering for women to get together to share and build experience and push each other in a encouraging environment. Fill in the Google Form to sign up! \n \nGirls Gone Nile 2016 from Shannon Orcutt on Vimeo. \nThe only costs involved are if you need to rent kayaking equipment and we’ll split the price of transport. You should bring your own lunch for both days and we will be doing dinner and breakfast potluck style. \nSATURDAY FEBRUARY 11 \nWe will meet at Kayak the Nile in Bujagali at 10AM drive to Jenny and Charlie’s land at Superhole. We’ll do a brief Superhole session then the intermediate/ advanced group paddle down to Nile Special. We’ll be cooking out\, camping\, and living it up at the land. \nSUNDAY FEBRUARY 12 \nWe’ll make a quick breakfast then head out to the river likely splitting into a beginner and more advanced groups to practice skills and surfing around Superhole. This is your chance to contribute to the MCU. We have put together a briefing HERE to show you what the roles are and the basic responsibilities. This can vary and people take on different responsibilities based on personal interest. \nA lot has happened this year and the MCU is now legally registered. We will be voting on the proposed changes to the Memorandum and Articles. A lot of time and effort has gone into reviewing the old Constitution. SUMMARY:Rwenzori Mountains Trek
DESCRIPTION:Wohoooo! This is the big one! Take on the famous Mountains of the Moon! A bunch of people are planning to take on three possible mountains: Stanley (Margherita Peak)\, Speke\, and Baker.  The trip will costs around 1300 USD\, plus transport and park fees may apply.  MCU member discounts with RTS will apply.  Free park entry for those with a UWA Special Corporate Pass.  Members from our partner club MC South Africa are joining as well\, so this is a great chance to network with some other African climbers.  The highest peak is 5109m.  This is a serious climb including a glacial ascent on Mount Stanley\, so good basic fitness is a must!  Contact matt.battani@gmail.com if you are interested.

DESCRIPTION:Red Dirt Uganda Mountainbike Centre has set a date for their next multiday mountainbike adventure in Uganda. It’s gonna be awesom! \nThe trip through West-Uganda will be the most unique and beautiful nature and wildlife mountainbike trip you will ever make. We’ll cycle past breath-taking lakes and through the jungle of one of world’s only habitats of mountain gorilla’s\, followed by a thrilling safari ride on your iron horse through one of Uganda’s national parks to see lions\, buffalo’s\, elephants and much more. Experience local culture by riding through beautiful African villages and meeting its friendly inhabitants\, while slaloming between magical crates lakes with a backdrop of Uganda’s massive mountains: the Rwenzoris. SUMMARY:Mt. Elgon Mountain Bike Race
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to prove your skills at the yearly Mount Elgon Mountainbike Race 2016!!! \nMain race is a 33km XC/Enduro style course – it’s a mass start and the first across the finish line wins. From Sipi we climb into Mt. Elgon National Park before descending singletrack through coffee planations and villages. There’s 1000m climbing and 2100m max elevation over two off road loops connected by a little tarmac. Course record 2hr 25min. \nHalf race: The half race misses the first loop up to the National Park and is easier with less climbing and a lower max elevation. Course record 1hr 21min. \nTrained or not… There are a lot of activities for those who don’t want to participate in the race\, such as troutfishing in very lush surroundings\, climbing\, hiking the waterfalls \, coffee trips just to mention some… \nThis year there is an accommodation and food pack for $50 pp. It includes 2 nights camping at Noah’s Ark (across the road from Sipi River Lodge) with 2 breakfasts\, one lunch at Sipi River Lodge and a BBQ on the Saturday night. \nCheck out the Facebook page for more details https://www.facebook.com/mountelgonbikerace/

DESCRIPTION:The 2nd annual Tana River Festival is taking place in Kenya. The festival aims to bring together the East African and International whitewater community for a weekend of fun\, challenging competitions on Kenya’s most famous river. The festival hopes to increase the participation of Kenyans in the sport\, while encouraging international paddlers to come to Kenya for trips on world-class whitewater. DESCRIPTION:Fancy a change from Insita/Luwazi? A group of MCU climbers will leave on Thursday\, November 24th in the evening to conquer Sipi’s climbing walls.  Climbing will be in two bolted locations on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday.  Some time will be spent exploring a new wall as well as checking out some caves and waterfalls nearby.  Back in KLA late Sunday evening.  Cheap camping and local food possible.  Upscale options also available.  Contact matt.battani@gmail.com if you are interested!

SUMMARY:MCU Kayak Weekend- Hairy Lemon Edition
DESCRIPTION:The long awaited Hairy Lemon kayaking weekend is back! \nThis is definitely the social highlight of the MCU kayaking calendar with a big fancy dress party on Saturday night. Non-kayakers are more than welcome to join – judging from last time there were definitely more people just enjoying a chilled out weekend than kayaking. \nFor the kayakers the Hairy Lemon weekend will give you the opportunity to run some of the other rapids further down the river. Make use of this opportunity as many of these rapids will disappear once the dam is built. Beginners are more than welcome and the stellar Kayak the Nile team will be offering lessons for the total beginners to the more experienced kayakers. Take a look here for more details on the lessons and MCU discounts. The sign-up sheet will become available after the last month’s lesson took place – so please do not sign up yet. \nAccommodation: \nAs the Hairy Lemon is an island\, it is vital that you book accommodation! You might be turned away if you don’t book as they have to organise food and the non-camping options will most definitely sell out. \nTransport: \nAs this weekend takes place at the Hairy Lemon\, it will not be possible to use the shuttle option. So you’ll need to organise your own ride! Please use the Facebook group to offer or ask for a ride – as usual please make sure to chip in for petrol. It should be around 25k per person there and back in a full car. The road to the Hairy Lemon isn’t the best especially not during rainy season\, so using a 4 wheel drive is advisable. \nTheme: “Human Drawings in Leggins and Hats”\nSo get a plain T-Shirt with markers and body paint ready!!!\nIt’s your choice to create your own drawings or to wait till the evening and let everyone else have a go in creating a human drawing out of you.\nSpice up your costume with colourful leggins\, a hat or any other accessory you seem fit for your human artwork. \nPlease let laurabierer@gmail.com know if you have any questions.
