Mountain Bike Festival

Magic Mountainbiking

Only a 30-minute boatride away from busy Kampala lies a rather undiscovered area. A magical location without traffic, fumes and hustler’s hassle. This area offers some of Uganda’s best mountainbike trails both singletrack and wider dirtroads which will lead you through lovely villages and beautiful nature. At the heart of it lies Weaver’s Nest. A place where you can really relax and enjoy the beauty of Uganda. In the weekend from May 5th to 7th Weaver’s Nest forms the base for the pilot of Red Dirt’s Mountainbike Festival. A festival designed for the bikefreak and his/her family.

Activities

We will have scenic mountainbike rides for kids, beginners and advanced during the day and an exciting ride at night. You can also join one of our mountainbike skill training or compete on the obstacle course. Besides biking there are plenty of other activities that you or your family can participate in: boatrides, swimming pool, cano, bbq, adventure park, etc. Detailed information will follow soon.

Accommodation

Weaver’s Nest has two fully furnished houses with a great view available that each offers 10 sleeping places. Showers with hot water, fully equiped kitchens, a massive garden directly connected to Lake Victoria, a campfire location, a private jetty, a swimming pool and more are all at your disposal.

Reservation

Accommodation for the whole weekend (2 nights) is USD60 per person. Additional costs vary per activity. For reservation or more information please contact thies.timmermans@gmail.com or 0772458796.

Mountain Bike Fort Portal to Kisoro

Red Dirt Uganda Mountainbike Centre has set a date for their next multiday mountainbike adventure in Uganda. It’s gonna be awesom!

The trip through West-Uganda will be the most unique and beautiful nature and wildlife mountainbike trip you will ever make. We’ll cycle past breath-taking lakes and through the jungle of one of world’s only habitats of mountain gorilla’s, followed by a thrilling safari ride on your iron horse through one of Uganda’s national parks to see lions, buffalo’s, elephants and much more. Experience local culture by riding through beautiful African villages and meeting its friendly inhabitants, while slaloming between magical crates lakes with a backdrop of Uganda’s massive mountains: the Rwenzoris. Too much to mention!

But be aware, you’ll have to work for it! We’ll cycle from Fort Portal to Kisoro and will cover around 300km with quite some elevation metres. This is not for the fainthearted, but very much do-able if you have a adequate fitness level.

Check this link for an impression of our last trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-xwNlbHvUE&feature=youtu.be

The trip comes with basic accommodation, breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks and water during cycling, transport from/to Kampala and during the trip, guiding vehicle with mechanic who will clean your bikes daily and a fluent english speaking guide.

Participation in this tour is based on open enrollment. Anyone can join. For more information send a PM or call/whatsapp to 0772458796

Mt. Elgon Mountain Bike Race

It’s time to prove your skills at the yearly Mount Elgon Mountainbike Race 2016!!!

Main race is a 33km XC/Enduro style course – it’s a mass start and the first across the finish line wins. From Sipi we climb into Mt. Elgon National Park before descending singletrack through coffee planations and villages. There’s 1000m climbing and 2100m max elevation over two off road loops connected by a little tarmac. Course record 2hr 25min.

Half race: The half race misses the first loop up to the National Park and is easier with less climbing and a lower max elevation. Course record 1hr 21min.

Trained or not… There are a lot of activities for those who don’t want to participate in the race, such as troutfishing in very lush surroundings, climbing, hiking the waterfalls , coffee trips just to mention some…

This year there is an accommodation and food pack for $50 pp. It includes 2 nights camping at Noah’s Ark (across the road from Sipi River Lodge) with 2 breakfasts, one lunch at Sipi River Lodge and a BBQ on the Saturday night.

Sunday Morning Ride

Wanna experiece the red dirt of Uganda on a mountainbike? You always wanted to do some mountainbiking, but you’re not sure how to start? Is your fitness not yet at the level it should be?

Then this is THE opportunity for you. Twice a month Red Dirt will organize a fun ride on Sunday morning. The rides will be at an easy pace, not too long (25-35km) and most important of all: great fun!

On October 30th we’ll start from Kabira Country Club at 9am. You can park your car there for free. Our aim is to be back before noon for a good cup of coffee. Make sure to bring water, food/snacks, suncream, a helmet and your bike and some money for coffee or drinks. If you don’t have a bike you can also hire one (comes with a helmet) for 65k, but let us know before the end of Friday.

Money? No money! This activity is free of charge!

PS: Kampala Group of Bikers (KGB) is doing short and longer rides every Sunday. The Red Dirt Sunday ride will be part of their usual riding scheme, but always focussed on beginners.
