June Kayaking Weekend

Hankering for a weekend out of the city? Our next kayak weekend will be June 18-19 at the Hairy Lemon Uganda and non-kayakers are super welcome to join us for some chilled out island time (http://hairylemonuganda.com/). Once a month, MCU heads to the Nile for discounted lessons with the stellar team at Kayak the Nile (U) Ltd and kayakers of all abilities (especially beginners!) are welcome.

Please note that there is no shuttle available to the Lemon and you absolutely MUST book lodging in advance – it’s an island and they need to plan enough food and drinks for us!

Mt. Kadam Hike in Karamoja

What: MCU Hike of Mount Kadam in Beautiful Karamoja (3063 meters)

Departure: Thursday, June 2nd after work

Return: Sunday, June 5th before bedtime

Max 15 Hikers: contact matt.battani@gmail.com to sign up

Raingear is essential for this hike given the time of year.  Kadam is lush at the moment as rains have been heavy.  Each hiker will also need a good tent, sleeping roll and sleeping bag rated down to 5 C or so.  Those with extra gear should bring it to help provide for our guides that don’t have their own.  We’ll cook as a group and include our guides in the meals.

Mihingo Run and Mountain Bike Race

Come check out the 4th Annual Mihingo Conservation Foundation – Mihingo Marathon scheduled for Saturday 4th June 2016, near Lake Mburo National Park.

This spectacular event will have both running and mountain biking races for both individuals and teams. You cannot miss this opportunity to run along with the zebras!

All funds raised will be used by MCF to reduce the human-wildlife conflict around Lake Mburo and link communities to the benefits of living alongside wildlife. Last year MCF compensated 153 livestock (122 cows and 31 goats) killed or injured by leopard and hyena.

So come and run for conservation and see exactly what the MCF is working to protect during your race.

Seven Hills Walk

Legend has it that Kampala, like Rome, is a city that was built on seven hills. The city derives its name Kampala for the Luganda work “Kasozi ka Mpala” which means a Hill of many Impala. The Kampala of today comprises of 21 hills, but a walk through the 7 Hills will give you the opportunity to explore the genesis of the present day city.

The 7 hills are; Nsambya, Kibuli, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Lubaga, Lubiri. A route between the hills along paths and feeder road takes approx 6 hours.  The walk will be led by Deo Lubega (0712890369). The start and finish point will be the Moonland Gardens on Nsambya-Gaba Road (a safe place to park with a small charge).
