Legend has it that Kampala, like Rome, is a city that was built on sevenhills. The city derives its name Kampala for the Luganda work “Kasozi ka Mpala” which means a Hill of many Impala. The Kampala of today comprises of 21 hills, but a walk through the 7 Hills will give you the opportunity to explore the genesis of the present day city.
The 7 hills are; Nsambya, Kibuli, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Lubaga, Lubiri. A route between the hills along paths and feeder road takes approx 6 hours. The walk will be led by Deo Lubega (0712890369). The start and finish point will be the Moonland Gardens on Nsambya-Gaba Road (a safe place to park with a small charge).
