Upcoming Events

MCU runs a range of different trips and events inside and occasionally abroad. At the moment, we are slowly getting back into running events, after a break due to the second Covid lockdown in Uganda. Bear with us and check out the calendar to stay informed! Some of the usual trips and events of the MCU include the following. Please also check out our Whatsapp groups and the MCU Facebook page for updates and current changes.

Weekly climbing events at the quarry in Muyenga

We meet Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays in Muyenga to climb. This is a great opportunity for experienced climbers to stay fit and for newbies to learn to climb. We organise belay clinics on a regular basis, where you can learn how to belay your climbing partner. Gear can be rented at the event. Non-MCU members can try climbing once for 20K inclusive of climbing fee and equipment rental. Please sign up to our list either in the MCU climbing Whatsapp group or on Facebook.

MCU-KTN Kayaking Weekends

Uganda is world famous for its whitewater. Here in Uganda MCU members have the unique opportunity to learn to kayak with Kayak The Nile in one of the greatest destinations for it in the world. Each month we hold an MCU-KTN weekend of kayaking lessons, we host lessons on both the Saturday and Sunday for everyone from complete beginners who have never been in a kayak through to advanced coaching. MCU members receive great special discounts. A social weekend of kayaking, swimming, and learning.

Luwazi Rock is roughly a 45mins drive from Kampala and offers a number of different sport routes of varying abilities. Camping out on top of the rock, then climbing again Sunday morning, or join only for one day – Luwazi is always worth the trip.

This trip will be for experienced climbers only – no beginners please. If you have not already passed the MCU Belay Test, make sure you are going with someone who will belay you. If you do not have your own climbing gear, gear can be rented from the Club for the trip. MCU membership is required to join this trip.

Trip fee: 10k per day

Climbing gear fee: 5k per day

For those who stay overnight: There will be a goat roast on Saturday night. The tentative menu includes fire-roasted goat, roasted potatoes, beans and kachumbari – for 25k. Cold Beers are available for purchase, order in advance.

Be sure to bring a rain jacket, plenty of sun cream and water (5L per day), it gets hot on the rock and can rain unexpectedly.  Keep a look out for Luwazi trips in the calendar and on the MCU Facebook page to sign up. Limited spaces – first come, first serve.
