MCU runs a range of different trips and events. Some of our regular events include:
MCU Monthly Meeting
On the first Thursday of every month we hold our monthly meeting at 7.30 at Athena Club in Kololo. New and old members welcome, we discuss past trips from the previous months trips and plan upcoming trips. It is also a great way to meet other people in the Club and share a few beers.
We hold indoor climbing every Tuesday evening at 7-9pm at the International School of Uganda (ISU) in Lubowa. A range of different routes from beginner to more advanced. If you do not own any climbing equipment the Club has equipment there that you can borrow. Please bring sports clothes and some water. Climbers usually go for some food and beers nearby after climbing.
MCU-KTN Kayaking Weekends
Uganda is world famous for its whitewater. Here in Uganda MCU members have the unique opportunity to learn to kayak with Kayak The Nile in one of the greatest destinations for it in the world. Each month we hold an MCU-KTN weekend of kayaking lessons, we host lessons on both the Saturday and Sunday for everyone from complete beginners who have never been in a kayak through to advanced coaching. A social weekend of kayaking, swimming, and learning. To sign up for the next kayak weekend follow this link. For any questions email Meg: megan.k.kearns at gmail.com
Luwazi Rock Climbing
Luwazi Rock is a rock roughly 45mins drive from Kampala where the Club climbs regularly. The rock has a number of different sport routes of varying abilities. If you do not have your own climbing gear then gear can be rented from the Club for the trip.
Gear hire is:
Shoes – 10,000
Harness + belay device – 10,000
Rope – 40,000 (shared)
Be sure to bring a rain jacket and plenty of sun cream and water, it gets hot on the rock and can rain unexpectedly. Keep a look out for Luwazi trips in the emails sent out to the mailing list and on the MCU Facebook page.
