Luwazi Rock Climbing Day Trip

MCU is organizing a climbing day trip to Luwazi.

We’ll set up the ropes at the crag, but you need to organize your own transport.

You need to have passed the MCU belay test, or demonstrate correct belay technique to participate. If you have not already passed the belay test, please come with someone who will belay you.

Trip fee: 25,000 UGX per person, inclusive of gear rental & parking.

Please bring along snacks and enough water, and ensure you get to the crag early, as prime climbing time is between 7am to midday, after which it gets too hot to climb.

The event will take place at the CIU Clarke Quarry on Sunday 15th January from 12 am to 2 pm. The cost is 40,000 UGX and includes equipment rental. Please note that only MCU members may attend, but memberships will be available there for purchase if you don’t currently have one or need to renew your membership.

Luwazi Rock Climbing & Camping Trip

MCU is organizing a climbing and camping trip to Luwazi. We climb a lot, eat together and sleep on top of the cliff with great views and sunsets!

Climbers who passed the MCU belay test are invited. If you have not already passed the test, please go with someone who will belay you.

Trip fee: 10k UGX per day

Food (Roasted goat or veggie option): 25k UGX

Mt. Kenya Batian Climb

For all you serious climbers: Mount Batian is Kenya’s highest peak, at 5200m! To summit this beast, you have to master roughly 20 pitches from 4800-5200m.  You will need to have a lot of experience in multi-pitch climbing and prepare well for cold weather and altitude complications.  The climbs are generally low grades, but logistics and altitude make it very challenging.  The costs are relatively low at 380 USD for park entry and climbing permit.  Food, transport, lodging and gear on your own/shared cost. Luwazi Rock Climbing

It’s time for another Luwazi trip! Come and try the real thing! Test the skills you’ve honed on indoor climbing walls. Luwazi offers a good selection of top rope and lead climbing routes for climbers of different skills and experience levels. So, all are welcome.

Food and drinks
Remember to bring a lunch for Saturday and at least 5 litres of water.

Costs
To cover unforeseen trip expenses the club charges a participation fee.

Participation fee: 10,000 UGX

Membership: 50,000UGX per annum
(You must be a MCU member to participate to this trip)

Rentals
You can rent climbing equipment through the club at the site. You must provide an ID card or 100,000 UGX deposit in order to rent equipment which will be returned to you once the equipment is handed back.

Rope: 10,000UGX
Harness + belay device: 10,000UGX
Shoes: 10,000UGX

Insita/ Luwazi Rock Climbing

Want to get out of Kampala for the weekend?  Need to give real rock climbing a try?  The MCU is running a trip to Kalagi/Insita/Luwazi this Saturday and Sunday. This rock is only 1 hour outside of Kampala and offers routes for all levels of climbers. All gear and equipment can be rented from the MCU. Sipi and Chema Climbing

Fancy a change from Insita/Luwazi? A group of MCU climbers will leave on Thursday, November 24th in the evening to conquer Sipi’s climbing walls.  Climbing will be in two bolted locations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Some time will be spent exploring a new wall as well as checking out some caves and waterfalls nearby.  Back in KLA late Sunday evening.  Cheap camping and local food possible.  Upscale options also available.  Contact matt.battani@gmail.com if you are interested!
